Gye Nyame Dance Troupe Background:

Gye Nyame African Cultural Dance Company was founded in 2000 by Artistic Director, Kukuwa Nuamah. “Gye Nyame” in the Akan language which stands for “God is omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent” is a unique symbol which originates from the Ashanti tribe of the people of Ghana , West Africa . The troupe is made up of multiple drummers and dancers. The troupe tours extensively throughout the U.S. performing ethnic African dances from West, East, South, and Central Africa, all choreographed by Kukuwa Nuamah. Past performances have been at the Smithsonian, Wolf Trap, The World Bank, Schools, various arts events, County and State Cultural and Multicultural Festivals. We also are on the Fairfax , Maryland and DC School Performing Arts Programs. The colorful and symbolic costumes worn signifies the depth and hearts of the natives back home.
